Christmas in July! (Time to Book Your Fall/Christmas Session)

I’m so incredibly excited to finally be able bring to my clients something that has been in the works for the past couple of years. (Quick backstory. Last year, I had finally saved enough from my business to hire a builder for a larger studio space. I was THRILLED! It would mean more room and more services available to my clients and community. Unfortunately, the builder we hired was severely lacking in morals and work ethic, leaving us with only a floor and walls and disappearing after 3 days of work. The walls blew apart during subsequent weather. We have a very good attorney, however the nature of this type of problem may mean that we might never recover our initial investment. No, this is not quite the story about how I finally got my studio building completed – not yet!)

So excited that we finally have walls!

And not so excited that our builder never came back, and that our building blew down.

It’s a bummer of a backstory, I know. But listen, instead of feeling sorry for myself, and getting lost in plots of anger and revenge, I know that things happen in this life. Things are not always fair. And ultimately, when other people make decisions or behave in ways that are wrong, even to the point of taking something away from our family, this is still the life that we have. So, here we are, me and my wonderful husband, hard at work and basically starting from zero with the studio project. I’m still in my cozy little studio space (which I feel SO BLESSED to have, and which clients are always exclaiming is “so cute”), with tons of props, dozens and dozens of backdrops. And we know that while there is hard work ahead, we have SO MUCH for which to be thankful. Our beautiful children. A great life together. It’s an amazing journey!

What a perfect little space for my sweet clients!

I really have so many goodies in the studio, it is almost unreal! Thankful!

And a big part of that is YOU! My wonderful clients, who inspire me, and encourage me, and give so much back into my life. It’s rewarding beyond measure to do this for a living. So many of you come back to me year after year. You bring me your second and third babies. Since 2009, you have referred your friends, relatives, and coworkers to me, and now clients travel to me from all over the state of Texas. And that has been crucial in building my business. So, thank you! Now I would like to give you yet another opportunity, which will help me build my business and new studio space, while giving you an amazing discount on a plan that covers 5 years’ worth of sessions, gorgeous photos, and canvases. Just my way of thanking you for investing in my work!

First, for maternity and newborn clients, I have created a 5 year plan that will start by capturing those special maternity and newborn sessions, and then all of baby’s first amazing year. You’ll then get 3 more years of sessions and images, along with a gallery wrapped canvas for each of those sessions. Bundling these sessions together this way will save you $1500 or $1000, depending on which plan you choose! And if another baby should come along before the plan is complete, I will be happy to adjust the plan to include another maternity/newborn package in place of one of the 3 yearly family sessions.

And there’s something for my family clients, as well. Your plan includes 4 yearly family sessions, to capture your growing and changing family, too! But it also includes an option for one of my favorite sessions for extended families. These sessions are a wonderful way to get your extended family together for photos, and you’ll even have a meaningful gift for the grandparents – a beautiful 20×24 gallery wrapped canvas! This is the perfect session to book near holidays, when siblings often gather together. Each sub-family gets their own session time, and then there is time allotted for a group photo. Or, for clients who will not be together at the same time, I can even photograph each family separately, and create a group image from the sub-groups! No worries about scheduling conflicts. And this is particularly great for families that have lots and lots of little ones. It literally could not be easier for you! Families can always opt for a regular family session, or a maternity/newborn session should the need arise, instead of the Extended Family Session.

Bliss and Luxe Family

There is some flexibility with these packages, and I know that my clients, old and new, are going to LOVE them! I’ll be offering these 5 year plans from now through September, (although I reserve the right to limit this promotional offer if I become overbooked), and right now is the best time to schedule your family’s first session for the Fall, just in time for the Christmas card season.

I can’t wait to work with you and photograph your beautiful family year after year. Contact me at [email protected] for availability.

Tips for Choosing Your Newborn Photographer

Your newborn photography session should be one of the sweetest experiences of your brand new life as a mom or dad. Capturing everything that is perfect, tiny, and wonderful about your new baby and your relationship with him or her, those newborn photos will likely be some of the most treasured you will ever have. This is why finding and hiring an established and trusted professional for your newborn session is so important. Because your baby is only this little once.

When considering which professional to choose, here are a few bits of advice.

  1. Choose someone whose work you truly love, and whose style seems clean and timeless. Trust me on this – there is nothing about a newborn image that needs the colors or contrast outrageously enhanced. Newborn images shouldn’t “pop”. This is your sweet, brand-new baby. He’s perfect just the way he is. Furthermore, some of the trendy types of processing will be totally out of date in 5 or 10 years, but a clean, sweet image will NEVER go out of style.
  2.  Once you’ve found someone whose work is what you envision on your own walls, look to see if they show plenty of images from each session, rather than just one or two. The truth is, anyone can get lucky and get one really good shot. But it takes a higher level of skill and/or talent to get an entire gallery of great shots. And let’s face it – you WANT a gallery of images to choose from. Ideally, you want to be able to see anywhere from 10-15 images from a single client gallery to get an idea of whether the photographer can provide a gallery of images to you. Be sure to look for a variety of poses and setups, and that everything looks safe*.  (* Bonus points if they have years of experience posing newborns)
  3. Lastly, as soon as you’ve found your pro, contact them and get that session scheduled! An established professional who specializes in newborns like I do is very likely to be booked solid for up to a month, and possibly even several months, in advance. I recommend that clients contact me sometime in their 2nd trimester to book their sessions, but even if it’s later than that I will do everything I can to get them in for their newborn session. I want every client to have beautiful, special images of this amazing time in their life.

I hope this info helps you find the perfect photographer – one that you enjoy working with so much that you go back year after year for all of your family’s special memories. I know that there are so many things on your “to do” list. And hiring a trusted professional for your newborn’s photos is one thing you will never regret doing. Your baby is only this little once!
